The journey of watching Marble Hornets

Yes! We saw it! Before we met on the 24th of March, Manfred and I decided, actually we decided that already way back in February but never got the time to watch it together, to watch the entire Marble Hornets series.

Since the orginal Slenderman game (not the shitty one called: "The Arrival") we always found something quite menacing and fascanating about the tall man in the suit.

But eventually after the hype train in 2012, almost everyone calmed down about Slendy (maybe he was able to get his 20 dollars) and we forgot about him as well.

It was till late 2015 when I suddenly revisited one of my favorite Slenderverse - Series on YouTube (actually by accident, since I totally forgot about it): Tribe Twelve. From there on I was hooked. I got back into the legend of the "Großmann" and enjoyed every entry that was posted. By watching Tribe Twelve so intensively I of course started to find Marble Hornets and other series again. So I asked Manfred if we should watch the whole series and he agreed. Now I have to say I have heard about Marble Hornets, and yes I even have seen one or two entries before, but I never saw so much, that I could understand the whole story. Regardless of all of that we were really looking forward to watching the entire series.

The day finally came and man were we looking forward to it. I had the DVDs and so we began watching it (back than we thought that it will take 5 hours to watch everything, how dumb of us xD). After the first DVD we wanted to just continue watching, we were hooked. It was exactly what we wanted to see. There was tension, the evolving story and it's characters were interesting and Slendy himself was more menacing than ever before. Especially "Masky" jumpscared us really bad once, which is hard to accomplish nowadays since we are so used to bad jumpscares, but this one was pure perfection.

But after the first season something changed. The story pacing slowed down dramatically and the horror aspect of the series declined to a very low level. Over the next 20 - 30 entries barely anything was happening, or when something was happening, it was the same thing that we saw already (Jay goes in the forest. There is Slenderman. Jay runs away. Jay drives a car. Tim dramatically smokes a cigarette. etc.). It looked like till the end of the second season they weren't to sure if they should continue with the series for another season or end it in this one. And I have to tell you: It was sooooo boring! I fell asleep several times while watching that part, which isn't a good a sign at all.

Because of that we weren't all to enthusiastic to watch the rest of the series and started to film random videos, go to the cinema, etc. When I was back home I swore to myself that I would finish watching Marble Hornets today. (I hate to stop watching something in the middle of it.) So I continued the series where we left of (I think it was Entry#72.).

Around Entry#76-78 I noticed something. The pacing was starting to speed up, the characters started to evolve more drastically and Slendy seemed to need more dollars again.

It was what we loved in the beginning of the series, so I of course loved it again.

The last entries were perfect. They were intese, intersting and above all quite scary. Entry#87 came and I finshed the series with me waiting for more answers. But the creators didn't want to give them to me that easily. They hid the answers in various codes which I really didn't have the time and energy to decode (it was around midnight xD). So I watched the end of an explained series of the YouTube channel "NightMind" to tie in all the ends that I was missing. After watching the video I was really impressed by the story. It is a really different take on the whole Slenderman myth and the work put into hiding the answers in various entries is remarkable and inspiring as a video creator!

Marble Hornets could have been such a perfect Slenderman - Series if the second season wouldn't seem so slow and boring. The story could have been told easily in a way more compact series and thus would have been downright perfect!

So yes, I agree that Marble Hornets is, storywise, an amazing series. But it is too long and in the middle quite boring, but watching through that boring part is worthwhile when you get to the "nitty-gritty" (I just had to put that in xD) and experience the intense and exciting ending.

Afterall I would consider Marble Hornets as your next watch, but take more time than we did so that you don't have to watch the boring segment in one go!
